New Era For South Australian Motorsport
The Sporting Club of SA have announced a bold new era, revealing a significant new member experience and redevelopment of the club’s iconic Collingrove Hillclimb venue.
The reveal took place over two days, starting with a Media Day at Collingrove on Monday 10 August. Mayor Bim Lange OAM from Barossa Council was present, enjoying thrilling hot laps, whilst influencers from around Australia converged on the famous Hillclimb circuit to capture content. The day was an opportunity to preview an all-new brand identity for the circuit and to hear about the plans for the venue.
On Tuesday 11 August, a more formal Media Day was held at the club’s headquarters in Unley. The day was attended by Motorsport Australia CEO, Josh Blanksby, representatives of the Barossa Council including Mayor Bim Lange OAM and other dignitaries and media personalities.
President of The Sporting Car Club of SA, Mr. Chris Frith presented to guests a series of significant developments for the organisation, the world’s second oldest car club in the world. Amongst the sweeping changes were a rebrand of the club’s identity. The striking new colours suggest a more contemporary look for the club, established in 1934.
“The rebrand goes further than just the logo” said Mr. Frith.
“We have developed a new website, an app which will be released in the coming weeks, a new range of club merchandise, and a complete overhaul of our popular Wheelspin magazine.
“Further to this, our events have been given a refresh, with new event brands and more identifiable and unique artwork to differentiate each event.”
Perhaps even more significant was the vision the club revealed for the Collingrove Hillclimb. The venue will be undergoing redevelopment and will be repositioned as a multi purpose, greenfield venue, capable of hosting festivals, trade exhibitions, pop up events and other interactive activations.
“This strategic plan delivers to the club more revenue streams, but it also delivers our current and future members even more reasons to be part of our club,” explained Mr. Frith.
To support this, Collingrove has been given its own brand for the first time since 1952 when The Sporting Car Club of SA took ownership of the land. Furthermore, Collingrove will now have its own website, which will act as a stand-alone venue, and members of the public can engage with the venue on social media and even wear the venue’s very own merchandise.
With the new structure in place, Mr. Frith told guests that the master plan will be supported by a new arm to the club which has been established to represent the commercial interests of its sprawling network of events and assets.
“‘The Adelaide Events Co.’ has been established to more formally manage the club’s sponsorships and venues. It will provide partners with a streamlined way to access our events and our growing audiences and venues,” said Mr. Frith.
The morning event concluded with nostalgic videos acknowledging past glories of the Sporing Car Club of SA, including various Grand Prix events it hosted, ending with an inspirational video revealing the future vision of Collingrove and the club’s future.
